Day 31

For Knox’s Birthday

Wonders wander through our minds,

As we think of where you are;

Do you think of us often?

In our thoughts, you’re never far.

Do you talk and sing with Jesus?

What do you learn every day?

We wish that you could speak with us,

And walk with us along the way.

Are you watching us from heaven?

Do you see how much we’ve grown?

We think of you every single day,

We wish that we too were home.

Today we celebrate your birth,

With others who love you too,

So many love both you and us,

Some you never even knew.

To know that you’ve been gone,

As long as you were here,

Is hard for us to comprehend,

Even harder this time of year.

We know that you are joyful,

And that brings joy to us too,

We know the love of Jesus,

Is the greatest love for you.

But still the days are hard,

While we stay here and wait,

For the day we’ll be together,

Safe beyond Zion’s gate.

We pray the Lord will keep us,

As He keeps you even now,

In His love and watch-care,

In His true and solemn vow.

His love has never failed us,

And it will not cease to be,

Unto you and unto us,

The eyes by which we see.

Posted here on Knox’s birthday.

For Knox

In silent times we strain to hear,
The voice of joy we hold so dear,
And yet when silence lingers still,
We pause with straining heart and will,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

In rowdy times we look to see,
The silly smile and grinning glee,
But when we linger to look twice,
Our hearts always pay the price,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

In family times we long to touch,
The little boy we love so much,
And an open space is ever left,
For we here remain bereft,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

In quiet times we pray with love,
To our God and His Son above,
To care for us who cannot be,
With whom we wish so much to see,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

In merry times we laugh and play,
And life still passes, day to day,
Times come and go and come again,
They pierce our hearts now and then,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

Oh God of grace, Thou ever true,
We bow our heads and hearts to you,
We pledge our all into your care,
And pray our grief, for You to spare,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

Then God of mercy, faithful King,
We lift our hearts and to You sing,
What praise we have, we to you give,
What lives we have, we for you live,
With trailing tears yet flowing.

God of glory, keep thy promise sure,
Thy will in heaven, on earth secure,
And raise us with your powerful hand,
Restore our family in the Promised Land,
Where tears shall stop their flowinn

For Knox II

Today we think, and talk, and cry,
And still we often wonder why,
When all is said and done again,
Why did You, God, take him then?
And what will we do without you.

Time slows now more than ever,
Sealed wounds are a threat to sever,
We thank you God for one another,
As we miss our son and brother,
Wondering what we will do without you.

And if time slows the tears do not,
Our grief is still such a heavy lot,
But we bear it as one with glad praise,
Knowing that you, God did raise,
Still oh! what will we do without you.

Like Abraham we will hope,
Against all earthly hope,
And in our heavenly hope,
Stand here without you.

If April’s showers bring May flowers,
What promises to blossom on this day?
Sweetness is what the wretched curse sours,
When your budding life was taken away,
When your growing life could not stay,
When our showering tears at last give away,
All that our hearts have been holding at bay.

Like David we will hope,
Against all earthly hope,
And in our heavenly hope,
Stand here without you.

Some say absence makes the heart forget,
Others that it makes the heart grow fonder,
We keep close your memories without regret,
With loving hearts we turn to you and wonder,
With hoping hearts we turn our thoughts yonder,
With praising hearts we think and ponder,
God’s grace and love that does not wander.

In Christ Jesus we will hope,
Against all earthly hope,
And in our heavenly hope,
Stand here with you,
In Him.

For though we see but darkly still,
Your eyes behold our glorious King,
We walk by faith to find His Will,
You walk by sight and to Him sing,
Our hearts are lifted to Him, we bring,
He lifts you into His arms to cling,
We strain to hear His trumpets ring,
You rest within His everlasting wing.

Today we think, and talk, and cry,
And still we often wonder why,
When all is said and done again,
When will God bring us up to him?
And what we will do there with you.
